Rev. Dr. Ronné Wingate Sims is an ordained Baptist minister, speaker, teacher and activist who creates culturally relevant healing spaces for those working through intergenerational and ongoing trauma. She currently serve as Executive Minister at Imani Community Church in Oakland, CA. Prior to that she spent a decade serving children, youth and young adults in both non-profit and faith-based settings.
She started her undergrad at Howard University but eventually earned a BA in Sociology at California State University East Bay and later a Master of Divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary. She then earned a Doctor of Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL in The Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. Doctor of Ministry cohort in African American Centered Religious Thought and Practice.
Her doctoral thesis, “Embracing the Wisdom of the Ancestors: A Trauma Informed Afrocentric Model of Pastoral Care” emerged after years of research and study tours to Ghana and South Africa. It centers ancient practices such as meditation, African drumming and dance, and employing herbal medicines as modalities for healing, delivered through a trauma-informed framework within a church context.
