In this week’s Workplace Wednesday, fend off the Sunday Blues with a plan to start Monday right.
Do you ever suffer from Sunday Blues? That feeling that starts to creep up on you as you near the end of the weekend and begin to prepare mentally for your work week?
Instead of suffering from the Sunday Blues, can you get excited for a Monday mindful beginning?
Setting an intention at the start of your week – or the beginning of any workday – is a powerful way to infuse your day with meaning and to start the day out right.
Let’s give it a try.
- Step 1: First thing in the morning, reserve a moment to practice. Start by getting comfortable.
- Step 2: Then, reflect on what inspires you about your work. It could be something like–your work makes a positive difference in the world or maybe you love the people you work with or you are simply grateful that you can support your family. Take a moment to bring to mind that source of inspiration.
- Step 3: Think about how you can infuse your work today with this sense of inspiration. You can try setting an intention. Like, “Today, I will go into all of my meetings with a sense of appreciation.” or “Today, I’m going to tackle my projects with an attitude of truly wanting to help others.”
- Step 4: Once you’ve set your intention for the day, notice how you feel in your body and your mind.
Great! You just started the day right with a moment of intention. Try to carry this inspiration forth as you start your work day. And, the next time you sense the Sunday blues coming on, make a plan to start your Monday work day right!
